Giriraj Singh deleted a post thanking the Supreme Court for staying the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026. At least ten BJP office-bearers in Uttar Pradesh resigned in protest this week. The 2026 regulations trace their origins to a petition filed in 2019 by Abeda Salim Tadvi and Radhika Vemula, the mothers of Payal Tadvi and Rohith Vemula. The petition challenging the 2026 rules – which led to the stay order – contented that the protection to SCs, STs and OBCs would divide the country on caste lines.
